JOB /ROLE PURPOSE:
Responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance and support of Oracle Solaris with LDOMs / Zones, Red Hat Enterprise Linux & IBM AIX servers. Along with this UNIX shell scripting & maintenance / support of NetApps SAN & IBM TSM backup management system. Reports to the Mid-Range Services Senior Technical Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
* Essential
* Ability to resolve 2nd and 3rd level Database related calls
* Full understanding of fundamental concepts in Unix Operating Systems (preferably Solaris 10 & Red Hat Enterprise Linux), Databases and Networking
* Experience of documenting systems
* Minimum of 5 to 6 years experience in supporting Unix (preferably Solaris & Red Hat Enterprise Linux) production and development environments (dependant on qualifications).
* Must have a broad knowledge in the following areas of technology; networks / telecommunications; desktops / servers; mainframe / mid range computing; messaging / Internet (e-); enterprise management systems; data management
* An Administration level certification in Unix (SUN / LINUX / TSM / Storage).
* Diploma or higher in Engineering.
* Experience in Oracle Solaris with LDOMS / Zones and / or Enterprise LINUX and / or IBM AIX; Tivoli Storage Manager; Solstice disk suite and ZFS File System; NetApps Data Ontap with SAN concepts; TCP/IP networking would be an advantage.
* Exposure to management tools to pro-actively improve services.
* Able to train junior team members / colleagues on Unix Server Technology.
* Experience in Disaster Recovery / BCP solutions and procedures.
* Experience in supporting Enterprise Web Hosting environments.
* Excellent problem solving and planning skills, a flexible approach with good verbal and written English communication skills.
* Knowledge and experience in working with security and authentication methods and tools in a Oracle Solaris, LINUX and AIX production environment.
Desirable
* Beneficial to have some knowledge of the Financial Services Industry.
* Exposure to Tivoli TEC, CA-TNG Unicenter would be beneficial.
* Strong working knowledge in Intel Server environments is a plus.
* An additional certification in an additional Unix Operating System technology would be an advantage
CORE SKILLS:
* Ability to resolve 2nd and 3rd level support calls within agreed SLA"s
* Ability to proactively maintain ALL flavour of Unix Servers.
* Ability to create scripts using Perl, Unix shell scripting tools
* Ability to develop sound relationships with service team leaders, other IT functions and customers
* Skills in the use of tools such as TSM, Tivoli Tec
* Ability to update skills and knowledge relating to future trends in Unix Server technology and industry standards.
* Ability to deploy and support complex Unix Server applications, e.g. Websphere
* Ability to implement and support DR Servers.
* Exposure to Unix Server performance tuning, Kernel optimization, disk utilization, file systems growth forecasting and Unix Server expansion.
* Migration/consolidation of servers to new hardware and onto a SAN
* Development of policies and procedures for Midrange UNIX Servers.
* Ability to manage the application deployment from the design phase to implementation to maintenance on Unix Server.
* Audit of servers against a policy standard.
* Excellent problem solving, planning and organizing skills, a flexible approach with good verbal and written English communication
